The Laowa 12mm T2.9 Zero-D Cine (PL Mount) is an ultra-wide, full-frame cinema lens built for professional work on PL-mount cameras. Its “Zero-D” optical design minimizes distortion, keeping straight lines straight — crucial for architecture, interiors, gimbals, and VFX environments. With 122° of angle of view, it delivers an extremely wide perspective without the typical fisheye look.
The T2.9 aperture is solid for an ultra-wide, giving stable exposure in low-light situations and maintaining consistent illumination across the frame. The lens covers full-frame, VistaVision, and large-format sensors, making it compatible with high-end cinema systems, including ARRI, RED, Kinefinity, and Z CAM bodies equipped with PL mounts.
The build is fully cine-oriented: 0.8 MOD gears for focus and aperture, a long 270° focus throw for precise pulls, and a 102mm front diameter with a 114mm step-up ring for matte box use. Optical performance is clean, sharp, and controlled, especially considering its size and focal length. Focus is fully manual, with no electronic communication — expected for a pure cine lens.
Lightweight for its category, the Laowa 12mm is practical for gimbals, drones, handheld rigs, and tight spaces where a wide field of view is essential. It’s a straightforward, distortion-controlled, full-frame ultra-wide tool that does what it promises.
